"iPhone": Amazon kauft E-Book-Reader-Software "Stanza"

Amazon übernimmt den auf dem "iPhone" ziemlich beliebten kostenlosen E-Book-Reader "Stanza". Der als Buchladen gestartete Internet-Shop bietet mit dem "Kindle" mittlerweile eine eigene spezielle Hardware auf E-Ink-Basis an und hat in den USA das "iPhone" als erste Fremdhardware mit einer Kindle-Lesesoftware bedacht, im deutschen "App Store" läßt das Programm noch auf sich warten.

Der Entwickler Lexcycle betont, dass sich durch die Übernahme nichts ändere und Anwender weiterhin von Drittanbietern Inhalte lesen und kaufen können. Aus dem Blog: "We are very excited to announce that Lexcycle has been acquired by Amazon.com!

It has been an amazing experience to see Stanza grow out of our brainstormed ideas into one of the most downloaded iPhone applications. Throughout this period we have attempted to listen to and innovate for our customers to provide a great ebook reading experience.

We are not planning any changes in the Stanza application or user experience as a result of the acquisition. Customers will still be able to browse, buy, and read ebooks from our many content partners. "E-Books sind noch am Anfang und wir glauben, dass noch viele Innovationen vor uns liegen", so Cinthia Portugal von Amazon.com. Lexcycle könnte Amazon dabei helfen, auch andere Plattformen wie Android, den Palm Pre und Windows Mobile-Geräte mit Lese-Software zu bestücken, schreibt die New York Times. Wichtig wäre aber vor allem die Apple-Plattform, die der Hersteller noch dieses Jahr um einen Tablet-Computer erweitern könnte.
